What is the difference in impaled and crucified?
Was Simon impaled or crucified. A picture of impaled can be seen by searching Transylvania Dracula. It is a lot different that crucified.
Crucifixion is an elaborate pagan human sacrificial ceremony.
From what I know, both of these methods of torture/execution were invented in Ancient Persia and do in fact have some similarities.
Crucifixion is when the victim is tied or nailed to a (usually) wooden cross (either X-shaped or T-shaped) with their arms and/or legs extended and left to die. It seems reasonable to assume that the cause of death from crucifixion would be caused by impaired breathing, dehydration or starvation since the actually wounds inflicted in order to crucify someone would not necessarily be life-threatening.
Impalement on the other hand involves the victim being pierced through their entire body (either horizontally or vertically) on an upward pointed stake driven into the ground (or something similar) This wound, with exceptions, would likely be fatal in an of itself.
A very famous use of mass impaling is, as mentioned in the question, by Prince of Wallachia (now Romania) Vlad Ţepeş , who was in part, the source for Bram Stoker's Dracula character.
Crucifixion was performed en masse as a means of execution during Imperial Rome. I don't think it was necessarily part of a Pagan ritualistic human sacrifice ceremony as much as it was used to control the population of their vast empire through fear...a frightening deterrent against commiting crimes.
Simon was probably crucified.
Some people mention that if nails are used during crucifixion, it is technically a form of impalement. I think that is reasonable, but since crucifixion describes a very specific technique/apparatus, it would seem more appropriate to call it by its own name, since there is one.
